Monterenzio

Monterenzio

Monterenzio, located between the Idice and Sillaro valleys, was the site of an ancient and important castle that was ravaged by Barbarossa’s troops and still preserves numerous relics from medieval times, such as the beautiful Palazzo Frontini.

The archaeological area of Monte Bibele contains the remains of an ancient Etruscan-Celtic village. A visit to this site provides insight into the history of the peoples who inhabited the Bolognese territory in the pre-Roman era. In the “Luigi Fantini” Civic Museum you can admire one of the most important collections of Celtic artifacts in Italy.

Monterenzio and its valley are particularly linked to bees; the “Bee Valley Idice” was born here with the aim of safeguarding pollinating insects. Monterenzio is an area particularly suited to organic farming: in a particularly healthy environment it is possible to obtain very high quality products, especially meat, milk and cheese but also ancient grains and, of course, honey.
